These are Margaret's Journal Entires of what she has done over the past two weeks of this project.
December 3, 2007
Today in class we learned how to actually set up the website. In class, Hallie and I made up the name for the website and it took us a little time to find one. We created the link for the timeline and followed the instructions to start the webpage.
After school hallie called me and we did the timeline together decided who would do what when. We made it so the work would be spread equally. I then started working on what I was to research for that night which is the importance of the scientific name. I did not finish last night because I had too much homework so I have to finish tomorrow and also find the information for tomorrow night.

Today in class our websites were checked by Ms. Tucker to see if we had done our homework. We were supposed to do the Timline and the first journal for this project. You can see both by clicking different links on the website. Also in class today we kept doing our research my subject was the scientific name and things about it and hallie's was to find the modern day name used for it. we got farther than that in class and I sarted the Habitat portion of my research.
After school I got home and I automatically started doing my research. i finished the habitat portion to learn that the musky soil smell that is in soil is really created by these things called geosmens which produce the nasty smell. I also learned that the bacteria grows best at 26 celsius, and that we cannot steer off track when we are working together or we will get NOTHING finished.

Today before class, I had a free period so I decided to start my research early. Today I did how the Streptomyces Griseus bacteria reproduce. It has taken a while because there is not much information for me to look at. I did not know if I could start using the free web yet, but I still used it. I saved the link and the url and I did the evaluation sheet when I got home.
In class, Ms. Jansen came in to teach us a lesson about the free web. We all learned how to use an evaluation sheet on the Free Web. One of the examples that Ms. Jansen showed us today on the Free Web, was how to know whether or not information on the site was real. She showed us a link telling about the really endagered speicies of the mountain walrus and the tree octopus. it was really funny, but still a good lesson.

Today in class, we were supposed to a lab showing certain bacteria growing. Our only prblem was that the agar plates did not come in for us to do the experiment. So, today in class Hallie and I kept researching. I kept adding some things and Hallie said I needed to stop because she felt like she wasn't doing anything. It was really funny. Today we researched the structure and more of the habitat. It was really productive.
This project is starting to get harder and harder because we have started to have homework in biology that is irrelevent to our websites and it is adding a lot of time so we are needing to finsih our research earlier just so we can make sure that we turn in the project fully done and on time. I am starting to get a little nervous even though we are only about four days into the project. The due date feels really close even though we have about another week to do everything. It is a long time, but really if you think about it, it is not really long at all. AHH I am so worried now. I just totally freaked myself out. OH NO.

Today in class we did a lab, my partner was not Hallie because she had already gone to amarillo so my partner was kyle. what we did was have two agar plates, a little vile of a broth with staph in it and another little vile with Escherichia coli. We put the sterile swabs in the both and then swabed the each or the plates. It smelled SO bad. After that, Kyle and I put two different antibiotics on the plate and a sterile disk. So we can see how sensitive the bacteria is to the antibiotics. I was a little worried, because in the lab one of the antibiotics was penicillin and I am incredibly allergic to it. So finally i just used some fairly long forceps to handle the penicillin disk. When Kyle and I finished the lab today I started doing my first evaluation page for the free website I am using. Some of the questions were a little complicated, so I had to ask a couple people what it meant. I finished my first page, and it looked semi-professional I was really happy with it even though it was only an evaluation sheet.
When I got home I did not get a chance to do any extra research, like i always do. I went to dinner at six, and came back at eight. Right when i got home i started doing this journal entry. After this I am probably going to go to bed because I have six lacrosse games tomorrow. This weekend though, I am planning on finishing all my research and starting the quia games. I cannot wait until i have finished all the research so that I can start doing all the fun things that will make our webstie super awesome.

Today I had a lacrosse tournament so I could not get very many things finished. Today, though, I am planning on doing numbers 1,4, and 5 of the lab report like we are supposed to for our homework, but for the research part of the day I am going to be researching the beneficial properties to my bacteria, the problems with my bacteria, and the recent environmental discoveries having to do with my bacteria.
I say that I am going to be doing this today, meaning that I am going to try to get it all, but most likely I am going to get most of it tonight, and finish the research tomorrow. Hallie and I planned on finishing all the research this weekend and making games on tuesday, but I fiugred since it was the weekend that I would finish all of the research and possibly get one or two games put up on the website. At least that is my goal for this next two days.

Today, I built a quia quiz over ten questions involving Streptomyces Griseus, also on quia, I made Falshcards, a matching game, and other fun activities. I started to research the resent environmental discoveries, and the prblems with my bacteria, only to find that all of the websites involving my bacteria are in either French, or German. This is not a good thing. I just spent two solid hours trying to find some information and I can't seem to find anything. I have spent so much time on the research today that I have not even gotten a chance to do the lab questions which are actually due on Monday. This is a really big problem.
Also today at one o clock i have to go to the lacrosse tournament again. For the first time in my life i hope we lose the game so we don't have to play anymore, so I can come home and keep working on all the homework that I have left. I still have to finish my goal for this weekend so I can keep up with the timeline, and I still have to do the lab for tomorrow. I have a lot of work ahead of me, and I hope i can do it. This is definately going to be a time management weekend/week.

Today I didn't really have time to do anything but I still added some more vocabulary words to the flashcard game so it is a little more useful. I'm really going to work hard tomorrow because I get the entire class period to work on this website.
I was really nervous earlier because I saw that Hallie has not edited her journal page in about five days and I didn't know if she had gotten very much information. Then I saw all of her work and it was all on a word document even her journals, and I almost fainted because all of her work was about five pages long. IT WAS SO COOL. Once I saw all of her stuff I immedeatly called myself down and kept on working. I totally think we are going to get an A on this project.
December 11 and 12, 2007
I am totally freeking out right now because I have no earthly idea what Hallie is doing for the information page. But i think she is okay so its all good. I can't wait until the website is totally finished I am so excited our website is going to be so good. We planned that on Saturday that we would meet at my house to finish the website at ten thirty we are going to make it soooo cool. We are going to read everything and make everything really awesome.
I made another game and it is really cool. It is a word jumble, and it is a little harder than usuall, because you have to actually read the website first before you can play it because there are no definitions that go with the words. It is just 10 scrambled words. I guess i tis a good thing though because then it will get the reader to actually read the website not just go to the games.

Today in class we did a lab having to do with gram stains, it wasn't very complicated, but it took a long time. There were a lot of really precise instructions. One of the members of my group would always ask me how many drops we are supposed to use of a certain solution, even though it was always right infront of them. It was really frustrating.
When I got home today I didn't really do any more research with the website, all I did was go over any typos that Hallie and I had, and change some little things here and there. I think it was pretty productive. Also today I saw a couple of other people's websites, and I was fairly proud because I thought that maybe Hallie and I didn't have as much information as others, but as I looked I saw that we either had the same amount or maybe even a little more.

Today in class Ms. Tucker told all of us that we did not prepare ourselves very well for the lab. Hallie, Garrett, Austin, and I on the other hand thought that we did pretty well. One problem that happened today was that our group could not find our MAC agar plate, we looked and looked and we could not find it. Finally, we looked in the refrigerator, and it was there we were all calmed.
When I got home today, I did all of my homework including re-checking my website my dad and I got the website ready for Hallie to come over Tomorrow so we can totally finish it. Also I had to finish my homework because my sister Julianna is coming this weekend and that will be a really large distraction. Hallie and I are planning to turn in our project tomorrow completely finished so that we don't have to worry about it on Sunday.

QUIA WAS ANOTHER FUN WEBSITE FOR ME. IT MADE IT EASY FOR ME TO MAKE THE GAMES AND QUIZZES. ALL I HAD TO DO WAS COME UP WITH A FEW QUESTIONS AND THEN JUST COPY AND PASTE THEM IN. IF YOU EVER NEED TO MAKE A GAME OR QUIZ YOU SHOULD USE QUIA.
THESE WEBSITES ARE GOOD BUT AS I HAVE BEEN GETTING DEEPER INTO THE INFORMATION I HAVE BEEN HAVING TROUBLE FINDING WEBSITES IN ENGLISH THEY ARE MOSTLY IN SPANISH, GERMAN, AND FRENCH.
At first when I started the project, I notcied there wasn't anything on Nettrecker, so I went onto the Free Web to look for stuff. I found ONE free website with good information on it. So I used it and sited it. I then couldn't find any information that wasn't the same as on the website I found. SO.....I went back to the library website and I looked through all of the Internet Databases, and I found Gale group which I hadn't used before. I sarted to use it, and I found a lot of things that had to do with Streptomyces Griseus!!!! So use gale group when you research this bacteria.
Oddly on our information page, when we edit it, it will spaz out. We will do exactly what we do to other pages, and it will not work as well. It consumed a lot of time also which was a problem.
